Types of Review

Research can undergo one of three levels of review: exempt, expedited, or full board. Decisions on the type of review are made based upon the type of research being conducted and the risk of potential harm for study participants. Exempt and expedited research is reviewed by one individual in the HRPP Office on an ongoing basis and in the order in which it is received. Full board research is reviewed at a convened meeting of the Institutional Review Board once a month. See the links below for more detailed information about each type of review.
