Reminder: ORIED Resources Available to UTIA Faculty

After the reunification of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT) and the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) in 2019, many resources in the UT Office of Research, Innovation & Economic Development (ORIED) are available to support UTIA faculty as they pursue external awards and recognition for their research, education and outreach activities.

ORIED is here to serve the needs and promote the successes of UTIA faculty as key contributors to UT’s growing research enterprise. The following additional resources are available to support UTIA faculty engaged in research, and complement the services provided by the UTIA Office of Sponsored Programs and Sponsored Projects Accounting teams.

  • Build your expertise: Our Research Development team offers a range of professional development programs to help you compete for external awards and recognition.
  • Find funding: ORIED manages a portfolio of internal investment opportunities open to UTIA faculty. The Research Development team works with faculty to identify federal and foundation funding opportunities, find collaborators and develop strategies to advance project ideas to the proposal stage, while the Partnerships and Economic Development team can help you identify potential corporate and community sponsors and partners.
  • Develop proposals: The Research Development team helps faculty develop ideas and generate winning proposals. They offer editing and advising on proposals of all sizes and provide comprehensive support for the development of center-scale proposals. Partnerships and Economic Development can find industry and community partners to increase the reach and impact of research collaborations.
  • Conduct your research: The Research Integrity and Assurance team is available to help you create and nurture a culture supporting the responsible conduct of research, providing training and compliance support as you navigate issues related to the use of humans and animals in research, export controls and research security, concerns about research misconduct, management of conflicts of interest and commitment and more.
  • Protect your ideas: The Partnerships and Economic Development team and our colleagues in the UT Research Foundation help innovators protect their ideas developed with university and sponsor resources.
  • Share your success: Our Research Communications team wants to share your stories! Our communications staff are here to promote events and outcomes related to UTIA research through a variety of channels for both internal and external audiences, including social media, newsletters and more.

The resources above are only a small part of what ORIED does to support UTIA faculty. Please explore our website to learn more, and sign up for our newsletters and listservs to stay up to date on important news and opportunities.

For questions about other ORIED resources available to UTIA faculty, please reach out directly to Jennifer Webster, ORIED’s chief of staff, at jwebster@utk.edu.
