The Office of Research & Engagement is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures governing research and creative activity and the administrative aspects of research operations. It provides administrative support and assistance in complying with applicable laws and regulations in the following areas of research compliance:

Biosafety — The Biosafety Program works to ensure regulatory compliance by improving researcher knowledge of biosafety issues through training and online resources.

Research Conflict of Interest (COI)— Examines disclosures to determine if investigators have significant financial interests that could directly and significantly affect the design, conduct, or reporting of research, and works with the PI to manage potential or actual conflicts of interest.

Export Control — The Export Control Officer helps researchers comply with federal regulations prohibiting the unlicensed export of certain commodities and information.

IRB/Human Subjects Research— The Institutional Review Board (IRB) regulates research activities involving human subjects by ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations.

Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) — IACUC ensures compliance with all regulations, policies and standards in place to protect animal welfare in research.

Radiation Safety — The Radiation Safety Department provides a wide range of radiation services and health physics support to assist researchers in the safe and compliant use of radioactive materials.

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) — Responsible and ethical conduct of research is critical for excellence, as well as public trust, in science and engineering. Consequently, education in RCR is considered essential in the preparation of future scientists and engineers.

IMedRIS — Short for Integrated Medical Research Information System, iMedRIS is a web-based system that enables online application submission, real-time submission tracking, review, post-approval compliance activities, and data management.
