CITI Training
ORIED offers online training through Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) that are available to all researchers at UT. Access CITI Training.

Once logged in, users will be able to choose from the courses below:
Choose One:
- Biomedical Focus Basic/Refresher — For most people in biomedical or other non-Social and Behavioral disciplines
- Social and Behavioral Focus Basic/Refresher — For most people in Social and Behavioral or Humanities disciplines.
- Note: The “IRB Member” and “IRB Chair” course options are for faculty who are serving as IRB members at the departmental or campus level, or as the IRB Chair.
This training is required for the IRB Chair.
- Biomedical RCR (Nursing, Clinical Trials, etc.)
- Social and Behavioral RCR (Psychology, Social Work, etc.)
- Physical Sciences RCR (Engineering, Natural Sciences, etc.)
- Humanities RCR (History, Philosophy, Foreign Languages, etc.)
When you register for the COI course, there are multiple modules. The modules you are required to take are:
- CITI Conflict of Interest Course – Introduction
- Financial Conflicts of Interest: Overview, Investigator Responsibilities, and COI Rules
- Institutional Responsibilities as They Affect Investigators
There is also an optional module that is informative, but not a requirement:
- Conflicts of Commitment, Conscience, and Institutional Conflicts of Interest
When you have satisfactorily completed all of the course requirements, you will see a link to print out a completion/grade report. Keep a copy of this report for your records.
There are 5 modules under Export Control. Be sure to complete them all and take the tests as required (the UT specific module does not have a test).

- Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
- The International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
- The Preventive Export Control Program at the University of Tennessee

Learners will begin by reviewing the key concepts related to claims of undue foreign influence on the U.S. academic and research environment, including the publicly voiced concerns of federal funding agencies, federal law enforcement, and Congress. They will then learn about how undue foreign influence conflicts with the principles of research integrity, as well as the reporting requirements, U.S. government actions, and effective university practices that address undue foreign influence.
