CIRTification: Community Involvement in Research Training is a human research protections training program designed specifically for community partners. If you will be involved in research and responsible for recruiting research participants, obtaining informed consent, or collecting data, this training is for you.

Understand past problems in research and the rules created to protect people today. Learn why community engagement matters.
Eligibility and recruitment
Learn how to follow study rules about who can join and how to respectfully find and recruit participants.
Informed consent
Learn what information must be shared with participants, how to answer questions, and how to support their right to choose whether to join or leave a study.
The Institutional Review Board (IRB)
Learn what the IRB is, how it reviews studies, and how it helps protect participants.
Collecting and protecting data
Learn how to keep participant information private, safe, and secure.
Handling issues in the field
Learn what to do if you see incorrect data, meet a participant outside work, or receive challenging questions.
Creating your account
- Go to the CIRTification website: https://training.ccts.uic.edu/
- Select “Register” in the top-right corner.
- Select “I am not from UIC.”
- Fill out the registration form.
- When asked to select a site, choose “University of Tennessee, Knoxville.”
- Click “Register” to complete your account setup.
- Visit the Course Catalog to find the CIRTification course.
- Click “Learn More,” then click “Enroll.”
Accessing your training
- Log in to your account on the CIRTification Online Website.
- Open the Course Catalog.
- Find the CIRTification course, click “Learn More,” then click “Enroll.”
