Director, Human Research Protection Program
Jennifer Engle started with the Office of Research and Engagement in 2017. She currently serves as the director of the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP). Engle develops, manages, and evaluates policies and procedures that ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and UT policies, serving as an internal expert resource for questions and other matters regarding the protection of human subjects. She oversees the administration of the HRPP and Institutional Review Board (IRB), including the supervision of staff and the administration of IRB Reliance Agreements and Independent Investigator Agreements. Engle also assists the IRB in its efforts to review research and ensure the protection of human subjects and assisting investigators in their efforts to carry out the organization’s research mission. She develops training requirements as required and as appropriate for IRB members, investigators, and staff, and ensuring that training is completed on a timely basis.
Engle serves as a liaison between UT and the Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other regulatory agencies on matters of human research protections.
