Research Tools & Software

The Office of Research, Innovation, and Economic Development has several resources available to assist the UT community in its research endeavors.

Through ORIED, the campus enjoys digital subscriptions for services that assist with finding opportunities for funding and research collaborations, plagiarism detection, publication and citation information, awards and proposal tracking, compliance training, and more.

Cayuse Research Suite—Cayuse provides for the electronic routing and approval of sponsored program proposals and documents. In addition, proposals developed in Cayuse 424 can be linked to a Cayuse SP form for routing and approvals prior to submission

The Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Program allows UT Knoxville affiliated researchers the opportunity to participate in online research ethics education.

The CITI program has learning modules for IRB, RCR, Conflicts of Interest, and Export Control.

Dimensions is a linked research data platform, including information on publications, research funding, patents and clinical trials – all on an international scale. This tool is designed to help anyone involved in research to get more in-depth information about what is happening in their research area and how it changes over time.

The DMP Tool guides you through the process of creating a data management plan to meet funder requirements. It is free and provides links to funder information, suggested answers, and data management resources for UT researchers.

View the Libraries’ Data Management Guide. For more information or for help using the DMPTool, please contact Chris Eaker, Data Curation Librarian, at 865-974-4404 or ceaker@utk.edu.

iMedRIS is a web-based system that enables online application submission, real-time submission tracking, review, post-approval compliance activities, and data management.

InCites is a research evaluation platform from Clarivate Analytics that allows for in-depth analysis of trends and citation patterns of the publication activity data for individuals, groups, organizations, countries, journals, and research areas.

iThenticate is a plagiarism detection software that helps faculty and student researchers avoid “cut and paste” or citation errors that might be unacceptable in funding proposals or scholarly articles.
