UT researchers are strengthening the circular bioeconomy in the Southeast, helping the region become a leader in the complete supply chain of plant-based alternative fuels and advanced materials. Aviation, automotive, and government partners are key collaborators in the development and production of these plant-based products right here in Tennessee.
The NSF has recognized the BRIDGES Engine, co-led by UT, as a winner of the nationwide Regional Innovation Engines competition. BRIDGES will receive up to $160 million over 10 years to strengthen the circular bioeconomy in the southeastern US by accelerating the development of biobased materials relevant to multiple industry applications.
Five faculty-led teams advancing innovations across disciplines, including electrochemical energy systems that play an important role in producing clean, alternative fuels, have won this year’s awards. Faculty will work to commercialize their technologies, address unmet market needs, and grow clean fuel production in Tennessee.
In response to a demand for skilled workers in the nuclear industry, a new partnership between UT; Roane State Community College; and the Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology is transforming how students prepare for and advance in the nuclear workforce.
Faculty will use this year’s Fulbright awards to study, teach and conduct research around the world.
