Thanks to two federal grants totaling $4.3 million, tree lovers hoping to expand Knoxville’s canopy – especially in neighborhoods needing it the most – have something to celebrate.
The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) has been awarded a five-year grant through the John Ogonowski and Doug Bereuter Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Program.
UT’s grant will increase tree canopy coverage, reduce stormwater runoff, mitigate extreme heat and bring ecosystem services to underserved communities in East Knoxville.
UT’s Baker School of Public Policy and Public Affairs launched two new research centers – the Center for National Security and Foreign Affairs and the Center for Energy, Transportation, and Environmental Policy.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville will lead a collaboration between Japan and the U.S. in an academic interdisciplinary platform called the U.S. – Japan Exchange Program for Green Growth Collaboration through Clean Energy Technologies (EXCET).
Entrepreneur fellows enrolled in Innovation Crossroads at ORNL will also complete UT’s Spark Cleantech Accelerator at the UT Research Park.
