  • Dayakar Penumadu, the Joint Institute for Advanced Materials (JIAM) Chair of Excellence in the Tickle College of Engineering, is in the process of patenting a new adhesive, referred to as a “smart joint” system consisting of distributed optical fiber sensors useful to designers and manufacturers in advanced materials. The UT Research Foundation and the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering submitted the patent application on his behalf for Luna Innovations Incorporated O Di SI product (Optical Distributed Sensing).

  • GeoAir, a startup company founded by MBA candidate Alex Adams, won top prize at last week’s fall 2016 Vol Court Pitch Competition. Adams won $1,500, a year of free office space in the UT Research Foundation Business Incubator, consulting services courtesy of PYA, legal advice from Morehous Legal Group, and a yearlong subscription to TurboFunder provided by Funding Sage.
