Attending Veterinarian (AV) on staff. The principal responsibility of the AV is to develop and implement an effective program of veterinary care for animals used in research and teaching. This program has multiple components including preventive medicine, proper use of anesthetics, analgesics, and tranquilizers; perioperative care; euthanasia; diagnostic procedures; and provision of veterinary care, emergency care and aspects of animal husbandry.

Teaching Laboratory Policy last fall that establishes a new framework for the use of biological hazards in teaching laboratories or other experiential learning environments as recommended by an appointed task force of instructional faculty and staff.

Minors in Laboratories and Shops safety policy went into effect two years ago, was recently updated, and is found in the online safety manual. It was developed in response to an increase in high school students on campus. The policy covers individuals less than 18 years of age who are in engaged in university-sponsored activities in laboratories and shops.
