NSF Major Research Instrumentation Program (MRI) – Instrument Acquisition or Development: NSF 15-504

The MRI Program is intended to assist with the acquisition or development of a single research instrument that is, in general, too costly and/or not appropriate for support through other NSF programs. An instrument provided through the MRI program is expected to be operational for regular research use by the end of the award period.

Proposals must be for either acquisition (Track 1) or development (Track 2), and must be for only a single instrument or for equipment that when combined serves as an integrated research instrument.

ARFL: Foundations of Trusted Computational Information Systems

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has published a solicitation entitled Foundations of Trusted Computational Information Systems. AFRL, which is primarily an applied research and technology development sponsor, is particularly interested in

“technologies that support hardware and software foundations for high assurance, trusted/secure architectures, increased computational sophistication of general purpose and specialized processing, increased complex system functionality with improved resilience, embedded processing and quantum information processing. Also of interest are technologies that can reduce warfighter decision latencies/response time, decrease system costs and system development times, automate labor-intensive/error-prone and costly aspects of system software development, and improve reliability, longevity, upgradability, and usability of emerging and legacy military information systems.”

DARPA Funding Opportunity on RF Materials & Devices

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has published a solicitation entitled Dynamic Range-enhanced Electronics and Materials (DREaM).  This program seeks “material and transistor architectures to enable breakthrough dynamic range, radio frequency (RF) power density, efficiency, and linearity.”  Specifically, DREaM “will develop new materials and novel device structures to create RF/millimeter wave transistors that enable high dynamic range RF systems… will dramatically increase the output power density at the transistor level as compared to present GaN technology…[and will enable] devices with intrinsically higher linearity….”
