Harvard Librarian Robert Darnton to speak on the future of the book
Robert Darnton, director of the Harvard University Library, will speak on “Books, Libraries, and the Digital Future” on Wednesday, April 1, 3:30 p.m. in the Lindsay Young Auditorium of the John C. Hodges Library.
“Despite a lot of loose talk about the death of the book and the obsolescence of libraries, books and libraries are more important than ever in the current digital environment,” Darnton has argued, “and their importance will increase as we design the digital future—if only we can get it right.”

Oxford University Press Editor Hosting Events for Authors
The Humanities Center and the Departments of English and History are co-sponsoring a campus visit next Tuesday, March 31, by Susan Ferber, Executive Editor of U.S. and World History at Oxford University Press. Ferber is one of the most influential and distinguished editors in her field, and she counts among her books Pulitzer and Bancroft winners, along with five national best sellers. She has also become a prominent public voice in demystifying the academic publishing world, frequently giving talks and writing essays on how to succeed in that constantly changing industry.
