World Acrobatic Society Recognizes UT Professor’s Achievements

Jay Whelan, head of UT’s Department of Nutrition, has been recognized with the Golden Achievement Award by the World Acrobatics Society and induction into the Gallery of Legends Hall of Fame.

The award is given to accomplished athletes who have gone on to have successful careers outside of their athletic accomplishments.

  • The Smart Communities Initiative was honored by the Southeast Tennessee Development District, a past and continuing partner, with their Flame Award, an overall agency award recognizing the SCI program and the university for commitment to engage the community, solve real-world problems, and “ignite the imagination of future leaders”.

George Kabalka, a chemistry professor whose research has helped in the advancement of imaging techniques used in the medical field, will retire from UT after a forty-six-year career.

Karen Sowers, dean of the College of Social Work was recently named the recipient of Mental Health America’s 2016 George Goodman and Ruth P. Brudney Social Work Award.

John Prados, a UT vice president and University Professor emeritus, has been named the inaugural member of the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Hall of Fame for his sixty years of service to the department as a teacher, administrator, and university icon.
