The Office of Research and Engagement and NeuroNET research center are co-sponsoring a day-long symposium on Alzheimer’s Disease research Tuesday, January 19 in Blount Hall that will feature speakers from the University of Washington St. Louis and the University of Toronto as well as UT and UTMC.
The symposium, conceived by Lynda Hardy, associate dean for research in the College of Nursing,Georgia Tourassi, director of the Biomedical Science and Engineering Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Laura Findeiss, associate professor and chair of the Department of Radiology at the UT Graduate School of Medicine, due to their interest in the disease.
“Many people do not understand what Alzheimer’s Disease is, how it is diagnosed, how it is treated, and most of all, the effect it has on the individual and their family,” said Hardy. “It is our hope that this presentation will generate interest from all collaborating parties, so that we can develop additional interdisciplinary research towards knowledge and interventions to assist in battling this disease.”
