Troy Lane, associate vice chancellor for public safety and chief of police, was named Director of the Year for 2016 by the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators for the Southeast region.

Graduate education at UT earned high marks in the new U.S. News and World Report rankings, with programs in business, law, engineering, information sciences, nursing, and education listed among the best in the nation.

Vitaly Ganusov, associate professor in the Departments of Microbiology and Mathematics, has received an R01 award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for his proposal, “Mathematical Modeling of Immune Response to Malaria.”

Two faculty members from the Department of Microbiology have been elected fellows of the American Academy of Microbiology. Heidi Goodrich-Blair, professor and head of microbiology, and Igor Jouline, joint faculty professor, join 71 other professors worldwide as 2017 academy fellows.

UT junior Florin Matei took home the top prize at this year’s Vol Court Pitch Competition for his startup that provides a less messy approach to protein supplements. Simple Supplements provides a protein powder product that requires no measuring or preparation by the consumer. The ready-to-use protein powder pods feature an edible casing, ready to mix with liquids.
