New Program Aims to SERVE Veterans, Boost STEM Research

Rucksack with Tennessee Volunteers patchTennessee has a long history of supporting the military, with the origin of the state’s nickname, its flagship university, and schools across the state attesting to the willingness of its citizens to serve in the nation’s military in times of need. Now, the University of Tennessee has found another way to support its veterans through a new program initiated by a grant from the Office of Naval Research (ONR): the Shaping Experiential Research for Veteran Education program (SERVE), which aims to engage veterans in experiences that address research priorities of the US Navy and boost the number of veterans with graduate degrees in STEM fields.
