Strategic Research Initiatives Team Seeking Three Faculty Fellows

The Strategic Research Initiatives (SRI) team in the Office of Research and Engagement is hiring three Faculty Fellows for a 1-year appointment beginning in late summer or early fall of 2020.

Fellows will conduct activities or projects that help SRI identify and promote UT strategic research capabilities and help articulate them to external audience. Fellows are also responsible for seeking out and responding to emerging research opportunities in federal mission agencies, and helping to mobilize multidisciplinary teams to pursue these opportunities.

SRI is seeking faculty applicants with expertise in one or more of the following research areas:

  • Space
  • Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML)
  • Microelectronics
  • Autonomy
  • Quantum Science
  • Materials (especially critical/rare materials, hybrid materials, metallurgy, or polymer science)
  • Network Science/Software Engineering
  • Manufacturing,
  • Hypersonics
  • Directed Energy (High Energy Lasers, High Power Microwaves, Particle Beams)
  • Cybersecurity
  • Electrochemistry/Energy Storage
  • Economic Development

A time commitment of up to 10 hours per week is expected, and travel for 1-2 short trips per month, when permissible, is anticipated. Compensation is negotiable and will take into consideration additional pay, course buy-outs, or partial support for a post-doc. SRI will pay for travel expenses related to the Faculty Fellow appointment.
