COVID-19 Research Update: April 30, 2020

Memo from Interim Vice Chancellor for Research Matthew Mench regarding research continuity during the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

Preparing for a safe return to campus

Following the Chancellor’s recent message to campus today, university leadership is fully engaged and campus units are coordinating plans for a safe, phased-in approach to increasing research activities on campus when appropriate and according to CDC guidelines to prevent a potential resurgence of COVID-19. The guidelines for entering Phase 1 beginning May 11 are posted here and will be updated regularly at this site.

Continued status of reduced campus research activities

At this time, all research activities in labs, workshops and studios continue at the same status, as defined here.

Please continue to operate any lab work safely, with continued social distancing, staggered scheduling, and proper hygiene and other PPE where appropriate for laboratory-based work.

Human subjects research

The IRB has designated that all research activities involving in-person contact with participants must be postponed. Procedures that do not require in-person contact with participants that have been approved by IRB can continue.  If appropriate to the research, investigators may submit protocol changes to the IRB that move procedures to those that do not require in-person contact  (click here for info).

Updates, FAQs, new proposal opportunities, and past messages from the ORED are posted here.

Thanks for continuing to help us all move safely forward!
