Guerguis Wins Prestigious Residency at Autodesk
Assistant Professor of Architecture Maged Guerguis traveled to Erfurt, Germany, during the summer of 2019 to exhibit the design of AMIE (Additive Manufacturing and Integrated Energy) at the fourth annual 3D Pioneers Challenge (3DPC) and came away with a coveted international fellowship residency with Autodesk. 3DPC is an international competition that brings together experts in additive manufacturing technologies who present projects that go beyond ordinary thinking.
UT Summer Dean’s List Now Posted
UT’s summer 2019 dean’s list has been posted online.
To qualify for the dean’s list, an undergraduate student must earn a term grade point average of 3.80 to 4.00 (summa cum laude), 3.65 to 3.79 (magna cum laude), or 3.50 to 3.64 (cum laude). Students must complete at least 12 credit hours, not counting work taken on a satisfactory/no-credit basis, to be eligible.
UT Humanities Center Receives NEH Grant for Black Arts History Symposium

The UT Humanities Center was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to host “In a Speculative Light: The Arts of James Baldwin and Beauford Delaney” February 19-21, 2020, on the UT campus. The goal of the symposium is to create new knowledge about black arts history by looking closely, for the first time, at work by writer James Baldwin and painter Beauford Delaney, friends who were among the greatest 20th-century black American artists.
Faculty Receive Fellowships from the Tennessee Arts Commission
Paul Harrill and Jered Sprecher have been named 2020 Individual Artist Fellows by the Tennessee Arts Commission. The fellowship provides $5,000 awards to outstanding professional artists in Tennessee.
Harrill, associate professor and the Dee + Jimmy Haslam Chair in Cinema Studies, was recognized in the media category for his films which have been screen extensively nationally and internationally at festivals.
Sprecher, professor in Painting + Drawing, was recognized in the visual art category for his paintings which can be found in permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Overland Park, Kansas, the Spencer Museum of Art in Lawrence, Kansas, the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, the Knoxville Museum of Art, and the University of Iowa Museum of Art, as well as private collections across the country.
