Haslam MBA Students Win Canadian Business Case Competition
A team of four master’s students from the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has won the Canadian Blood Services (CBS) and SCAN Health’s Virtual Business Case Competition 2018/19. The competition aims to encourage rising business leaders to come up with methods to help health care systems pursue innovation in supply chain and logistics strategies.
Haslam’s team designed the best solution to help CBS achieve “vein-to-vein” tracking and traceability of blood products from the vein of donors to the vein of recipients. The proposal, by students Michelle Davis, Carson Hollingsworth, Morgan Sowers and Abigail Wegman (all of whom graduated recently) calls for CBS to use tracking technology to create a transparent, predictive and balanced supply chain for its blood products. For their winning proposal, the team will split a cash prize of $4,000.
Social Work Professor Helps Homeless Neighbor
For UT social work faculty member Stacia Martin-West, it was a matter of being at the right place at the right time and having the knowledge to help.
Martin-West recently worked with neighbors in her Nashville community and with faculty and staff in UT’s College of Social Work to provide a home for a homeless neighbor named JJ.
“It was the natural social worker in me to see this happening in my neighborhood and to recognize I had the skills and experiences to access the resources he needed,” Martin-West said.
Ambroziak Receives National Diversity Award
Katherine Ambroziak, associate dean and associate professor of Architecture, has been named a recipient of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture’s 2019 Diversity Achievement Award. The honor recognizes work that effectively achieves diversity in curricula, incorporating contributions of historically underrepresented groups or contexts.
In all, three people from across the country received the national award, which demonstrate a “positive stimulating influence on diversity within architecture education, schools and the community,” according to the ACSA.
UT Economist Joins Fortune 100 CEOs on White House Advisory Board
Marianne Wanamaker, an associate professor of economics in the Haslam College of Business, has been named to the American Workforce Policy Advisory Board co-chaired by Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross and Advisor to the President Ivanka Trump.
Wanamaker will join the CEOs of Apple, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Siemens USA, Visa, SAP America, Walmart, Lockheed Martin, and Home Depot as well as other private sector professionals, the governors of Iowa and Indiana, and leaders of education institutions and nonprofits.
The 25-member board was established by executive order as part of the National Council for the American Worker.
