ORE Announces 2019 Research Seed Program

The Office of Research and Engagement has launched the second call for Research Seed proposals, which serves as a catalyst for University of Tennessee, Knoxville and UT Space Institute faculty. The seed grant program offers internal funds intended to help generate proposal submissions to focused sponsors or around a particular initiative. The ideal project within this program would apply for external funding and begin to generate manuscripts for publication no later than four months after the seed project ends. Ultimately, ORE seeks to support projects that encourage faculty members to identify and seek new funding targets.

Like last year, seed grants are available to four categories:

  • Biomedical Research Seed Program (proposals due Oct 31, 2018) (Expanded to include any biomedical research topic; external funding targets may include NIH, other agencies, and foundations)
  • Mission Agency Research Seed Program (proposals due Nov 14, 2018)
  • Community Engaged Research Seed Program (proposals due Nov 28, 2018)
  • Interdisciplinary Research Seed Program (proposals due Dec 12, 2018)

A faculty member may serve as PI on one application to the Biomedical, Mission, or Community Engaged Research seed programs. Among these three categories, it is up to the PI to choose the best fit for their research.  Additionally, a faculty member may serve as PI on one application to the Interdisciplinary seed program. Those who received Research Seed awards in the last cycle are ineligible to be a PI on 2019 proposals.

An information session will be offered September 17, 2018 from 2-3 p.m. and September 26, 2018 from 12:30-1:30pm in Blount Hall 004. This workshop has closed.

Interested faculty should begin or refresh their correspondence with external program officers in order to demonstrate a clear external funding target.
