NIMBioS SRE Students Win Award for ComFlo

Ashish Gauli, Nathan Wikle and Ryan Yan—undergraduate students who took part in the 2015 Summer Research Experience at NIMBioS—have been invited to attend the NatureServe EcoInformatics Workshop in Washington, DC, in December to present their research.

The students developed a mapping tool that helps users track the potential spread of invasive species via shipping routes. ComFlo allows the visualization of commodities into and out of states across the country via seven different modes of transportation, “contributing to an understanding of the movement of invasive species through domestic pathways within the U.S.”

Each of the students wins a $1,000 travel award as a part of the competition.
