Ward Plummer serves as director.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2005<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UT and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) expand TAML by <a href=\"https:\/\/volopedia.lib.utk.edu\/entries\/joint-institute-for-advanced-materials\/\">establishing the Joint Institute for Advanced Materials<\/a> (JIAM) to formalize collaboration between material scientists at both institutions to conduct groundbreaking research.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2009<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor George Pharr is named director.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2015<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UT and ORNL opened the 142,000 square-foot facility to house JIAM\u2019s headquarters at the UT Research Park at Cherokee Farm. The facility earned LEED Silver certification. Barber McMurry and Bullock Smith and Partners were selected as architects for the $56 million facility, and Blaine Construction was the contractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2016<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-quantum-pattern-top-left wp-block-paragraph\">Chancellor\u2019s Professor and head of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering <a href=\"https:\/\/oakridgetoday.com\/2016\/06\/25\/keppens-takes-over-as-head-of-ut-ornl-joint-institute-of-advanced-materials\/#more-73178\">Veerle Keppens is named director of JIAM<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2022<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/news.utk.edu\/2022\/04\/22\/new-institute-for-advanced-materials-and-manufacturing\/\">UT announced the launch of IAMM<\/a> to continue the groundbreaking advancements in physics, computer science, building, and energy collection and storage that grew from JIAM.
