The IAMM MBE facility provides services related to materials synthesis with the use of Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) equipment. The MBE system includes low temperature Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and Atomic Force Microscopy capability and is used to grow transition-metal-oxide thin films. These films are highly crystalline and have applications in the development of solar-energy materials, photo-catalytic materials, and superconducting materials. They are also important for fundamental studies of emergent phenomena in condensed matter systems. The system is equipped with a cryogenic scanning tunneling microscope for in-situ atomic-resolution imaging of the oxide thin films.
