IAMM’s research and innovation community work in approximately 280,000 square feet of state-of-the-art facilities distributed across the University of Tennessee’s campuses in Knoxville and Tullahoma, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory. IAMM is home to a number of collaborative initiatives and research facilities supporting materials and manufacturing innovation in Tennessee and beyond. Partnerships power far-reaching discoveries and the development of a diverse and technologically savvy workforce.
The institute’s HQ is located in a 140,000-square-foot mixed-use facility on the Research Park at Cherokee Farm. Tucked in a bend of the Tennessee River adjacent to Knoxville’s thriving city center, and 1.3 miles from the main campus of the University of Tennessee, IAMM anchors the Research Park and serves as a cornerstone for interdisciplinary research and innovation.
*Upcoming* Innovation South
Innovation South is a new 83,000 square foot mixed-use research facility in the Cherokee Farm research park. Set to open in late 2023, the space will support a new state-of-the-art fiber and composites manufacturing facility. Innovation South will nurture university-industry partnerships through co-location, with approximately 45,000 square feet dedicated to use by industry partners.
Science and Engineering Research Facility (SERF)
The UT Science and Engineering Research Facility (SERF) is a 230,000 square foot facility located on the Knoxville campus and dedicated to cutting-edge research labs and university centers. Also home to several research cores, SERF plays a key role in enhancing innovation and supporting workforce development across a range of sectors.
