FY17 Request for Organized Research Unit (ORU) Funding

The Organized Research Unit (ORU) Program is open for applications for fiscal year 2017. The primary purpose of this award is to stimulate innovative, multidisciplinary, team research which will give rise to future external funding.

Program Objective

This funding opportunity is intended to help enable Organized Research Units to pursue a substantial net increase in external funding  and to become self-sufficient, usually within a three-year time period.

The UT ORE administers several finite internal funds to support research and creative activities, including the Scholarly Activity and Research Incentive Funds (SARIF) and the Strategic and Transformative Investments in Research (STIR) fund.  The STIR funding is to be inclusive of broader strategic research opportunities that emphasize the intended transformative nature of the investment. ORE began providing Organized Research Unit (ORU) funding in FY09, and this has been one of many internal investment components to promote the research enterprise at the UT.  The STIR investment continues to provide support for new and continuing ORUs. ORE welcomes ORU funding applications from members of the UT Knoxville regular faculty in all academic disciplines for one-time, one-year FY17 funding. FY17 awards are open to new and existing ORUs that have received less than 3 years of ORU funding.
