The University of Tennessee, Knoxville Office of Research and Engagement (ORE) is pleased to invite applications for the FY16 Organized Research Unit (ORU) Program.
The UT ORE administers several finite internal funds to support research and creative activities, including the Scholarly Activity and Research Incentive Funds (SARIF) and the Strategic and Transformative Investments in Research (STIR) fund. The STIR funding is to be inclusive of broader strategic research opportunities that emphasize the intended transformative nature of the investment. ORE began providing Organized Research Unit (ORU) funding in FY09, and this has been one of many internal investment components to promote the research enterprise at the UT. The STIR investment continues to provide support for new and continuing ORUs.
ORE welcomes ORU funding applications from members of the UT faculty in all academic disciplines. The primary purpose of this award is to help ORUs organize to pursue a substantial net increase in external funding to become self-sufficient, usually within a three-year time period, or to help sustain ORUs with a large return on investment that are in a significant net growth mode of operation. Forming and sustaining multidisciplinary research groups is particularly encouraged. Further, support of graduate students, undergraduates and external engagement efforts is particularly important to consider.
