Opportunities Fund

The Opportunities Fund is administered by the Office of Research and Engagement; monies are distributed to both active and/or beginning researchers.

The funds are primarily reserved for very strategic high-level institutional investments.  The funds are awarded to support full-time, tenure-track faculty only.

It is requested that matching funds be provided.  This requirement may be waived or reduced for circumstances in which these monies are not available.

There is no formal application deadline for these funds.  Funds are, however, distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so applications should be made as early in the fiscal year as possible.  Allocations can also be approved for spending in the following year.

How to Apply

Faculty may apply anytime during the year.  Submit the request electronically to for approval by the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Development.

Requests should include:

  • A detailed description of the research activity to be supported, including the benefit to the university;
  • Details regarding the sources and amounts of matching funds;
  • Confirmation of support by the department head and dean’s office.
