The following memo was sent to faculty Thursday, February 23, by Taylor Eighmy, vice chancellor for research and engagement, and John Zomchick, interim provost and and senior vice chancellor.

The Office of Research and Engagement (ORE) is sponsoring a visit by Hilary Hartley, a program officer for the Core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program, on March 7–8. Ms. Hartley will give a presentation on Tuesday, March 7, on how to write a successful Fulbright application. The session will be held in Blount Hall, Room A004, from 2:30-4 p.m.  Ms. Hartley will also be available throughout the day on Wednesday, March 8, to meet with faculty members one-on-one for 30 minutes to discuss individual opportunities.

Please register here to attend the presentation on March 7. Anyone interested in reserving a time on March 8 for an individual meeting with Ms. Hartley should contact Jessie Holder Tourtellotte at jholde11@utk.edu.

The core Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program provides approximately 800 teaching and/or research grants to U.S. faculty and experienced professionals in a wide variety of academic and professional fields. Opportunities are available for college and university faculty and administrators as well as for professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars and many others.  Details about the Fulbright program and application process can be found hereThe deadline for the 2018-2019 academic year is August 1, 2017.

The Fulbright US Scholar program is among the national faculty awards counted by the Center for the Measurement of University Performance (CMUP) in their ranking of U.S. research universities.  It is also a target program for ORE in support of the institutional goals set out in Vol Vision 2020 around increasing the visibility of our faculty through national awards.  ORE and the Office of the Provost provide support and financial incentives to faculty who pursue and are awarded a national award or fellowship on the CMUP list.

If you have questions about the Fulbright U.S. Scholar program or other national fellowship or award programs, please contact Alan Rutenberg (arutenberg@utk.edu).
