We will cover the Young Investigator and Young Faculty programs offered by the Office of Naval Research (ONR), the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR), the Army Research Office (ARO), the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Eligibility for the programs requires either a limited time since receipt of PhD (5-10 years depending on agency) or since appointment to a tenure-track position (5-7 years depending on agency). The workshop will offer general guidance on writing proposals for the Department of Defense, tips for Investigator/Faculty proposal, the amount of funding available, guidance toward topic selection, and the anticipated proposal due dates. Subject to availability, a UTK faculty member who recently received a Young Investigator/Faculty award will also discuss their experiences and answer questions from workshop participants.
