The University of Tennessee Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) collects, analyzes and disseminates essential information about the university.  OIRA’s website includes a Fact Book with data on:

  • students
  • faculty/staff
  • finances
  • facilities
  • outcomes

In addition, a comprehensive Common Data Set provides statistics on university activities.

Assessment @UTK serves as a warehouse for assessment as it relates to university initiatives. This site includes details about

  • performance funding
  • major field testing
  • general education testing
  • program review, accreditation programs
  • links to online resources for higher education outcomes assessment

The Student Assessment of Instruction System (SAIS) provides for student evaluation of teaching at the university.  Eleven variations of the SAIS form assess courses that teach

  • heuristic methods
  • skill oriented courses
  • labs
  • clinical experience
  • distance learning

In addition, Tennessee 101, a service of the Student Government Association, is a comprehensive guide to the quality of course offerings at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, designed to aid students in choosing courses and instructors using 11 of the 33 items on the SAIS forms for their evaluations.

The Institute for Assessment and Evaluation, located within the College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, provides leadership in the field of evaluation and assessment.  IAE offers the following services to -12 school systems, higher education institutions, state agencies, and other public and private agencies needing assistance in maintaining and developing premier educational opportunities for the communities they serve:
