Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award
Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) is soliciting nominations for its Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award program. For more information, visit the ORAU web site.
Eligibility
Full-time assistant professors whose initial tenure-track appointment began on or between 2/6/07 through 2/6/09 are eligible to apply. The research project must be in one of the following five areas:
- engineering and applied science
- life sciences
- mathematics/computer sciences
- physical sciences
- policy, management or education
Award & Nominations
The award provides $5,000 for the project and the UT Office of Research matches that sum with an equal amount. As a member institution in ORAU, the University of Tennessee Knoxville is eligible to nominate only two researchers for the Powe award. These nominations are made by the UT Knoxville Vice Chancellor for Research. This program typically requires an internal competition.
Timeline & Application Process
November 7, 2008 -- Junior faculty who plan to apply for the Powe award should send an informal letter of intent via e-mail to Bill Dockery (dockeryb@utk.edu) and Jim Mazzouccolo (jmazzouc@utk.edu) by 12:00 pm).
November 10, 2008 -- Confirmation of internal competition (if needed).
December 1, 2008 -- Pre-proposals (a preliminary draft of the formal proposal to ORAU) must be submitted to UT Office of Research. The pre-proposal should include:
- A two-page description of the research proposed
- A two-page resume (only one page for publications listing)
Submit the proposal electronically as one document to both Bill Dockery and Jim Mazzouccolo.
December 15, 2008 -- Announcement of two faculty nominees.
January 30, 2009 -- Completed proposals must be submitted to the UT Office of Research Sponsored Programs unit by 8:00 am. Follow Powe guidelines located on the ORAU web site.
February 6, 2009 -- Delivery to UT Office of Vice Chancellor for transmission to ORAU.
